We work with housing associations and other housing providers across the country to change places and lives for tenants.

Just like you and councils around the country, we want to create great estates across the country where people want to live, this is achieved by working with local authorities to clean the area, build new facilities and giving local residents a sense of pride about where they live.

As is often the case, residents don't know how they can instigate change what they're not happy - but that's where we can really help.  We will come and take a tour of the area with local residents and note areas that need improving,  starting the ball rolling with community-led consultation.

Listening to Tenants:

Groundwork can work with you to listen to your tenants and help them take local action to improve their neighbourhood.

We use a range of techniques and approaches to gather and analyse information from questionnaires and consultation events through to participatory learning and action techniques and online surveys. Innovative approaches such as youth inclusion sports events, arts programmes, intergenerational activities or community fairs can help to attract the target audience to the consultation.

What makes Groundwork’s consultation services different is our local knowledge, contacts and understanding of what works in different neighbourhoods. We seek to capture people’s interest and engage hard to reach groups on a range of initiatives from small scale environmental improvements to whole neighbourhood plans.

Developing Spaces:

The outdoor spaces on housing estates can be a source of problems for social landlords – but we know that they can also have tremendous potential and be part of what makes a great estate.

We can work in partnership with you and your tenants to make the most of your outdoor spaces. That means redesigning them for residents’ needs and creating playgrounds, sports facilities, places created with young people in mind, community gardens and food production grounds.

We work in partnership with local authorities, parish councils, community groups, housing associations, private businesses and the public sector to identify and transform unused open spaces.

Our projects include sourcing funding and replacing play equipment in local parks; creating Community Wildspaces so people can be inspired by the natural heritage on their doorstep; and encouraging people to grow their own food on local allotments.

We’re the experts on what works in housing environments and we know how to make the most of your assets while designing out crime and anti-social behaviour.
