The news item featured the Future Jobs Fund as a government initiative in action that provides people claiming benefits short employment contracts, training and the skills to increase their chances of returning to full time employment, in line with the release of new unemployment figures.

The programme has been provided with support from the Government’s Future Jobs Fund, Groundwork UK and Nottingham City Council, through One Nottingham

Lizzy Kirk, Future Jobs Fund Co-ordinator at Groundwork Greater Nottingham says:

The Future Jobs Fund is a great opportunity for people to get back into work, develop their skills, confidence, make great contacts and demonstrate what they are truly capable of.  We feel the Future Jobs Fund offers candidates short term employability which will in turn deliver long term prosperity for them and their community.

Groundwork Greater Nottingham have been working with young people aged 18 – 24 who have been out of work for over six months. Referred to the scheme by their Jobcentre Plus advisers, the young people are then provided with work placements with Groundwork or one of their partners which builds their skills and confidence while boosting their ability to find future employment.  As Nottingham is an unemployment hotspot Groundwork have also been able to offer job placements to individuals over the age of 25 (depending on eligibility for scheme).

Communities across the UK are also benefiting from these new jobs, which include a range of ‘green collar’ positions that make neighbourhoods nicer places to live. Typical roles include: energy efficiency advisers, neighbourhood caretakers, land management workers, gardeners and recycling workers.

Individuals interested in finding work placements through the Future Jobs Fund scheme are encouraged to find out more through their local job centre plus advisor.
