Groundwork Leicester and Leicestershire aims to create and support sustainable communities by working in partnership with groups, individuals, organisations and businesses to improve the local environment and contribute to economic and social regeneration.
We have achieved full ISO 14001 certification for environmental quality standards and to meet or surpass all applicable legislation and other requirements to ensure the protection of employees, the community and the environment.
Environment
Groundwork Leicester and Leicestershire is committed to reducing our impact on the environment. We deliver an important environmental message to communities and businesses so it’s essential that we work to the same principles.
Parkfield, our main office, is a former school which has been refurbished to include many environmental features. The green space around the building is landscaped with a pond, a wildflower meadow and native trees and shrubs.
The building has a living roof, a composting toilet and a rainwater recycling system that helps to save 40% of our water usage. We recycle more than 80% of our waste and all our electricity comes from renewable sources. Staff are encouraged to cycle or use public transport to travel to work and we increasingly use technology to avoid unnecessary travel to meetings.
Our environmental policy, identifies where our work has the most impact. The policy is shaped by objectives, targets and procedures to ensure we follow good practice, minimise the use of resources and reduce our impact on the environment. In recognition of our commitment, we have received ISO14001-2004 certification for our Environmental Management System.
