Our Vision, Aims and Objectives

GWLL’s vision is of a sustainable society, where people value and respect the natural world, live within the earth’s environmental limits and are empowered to contribute to a positive future.

We will verify our vision by measuring whether:

  • People experience a high level of well-being, live in homes and places with a high level of environmental quality, and in communities that are cohesive, safe and healthy
  • There is a strong green economy and people have work that makes a worthwhile contribution to society
  • People have the knowledge, understanding and commitment to take action to enhance the local and global environment
  • The use of energy and natural resources has significantly declined to a level that can be sustainably replenished
  • Emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases are reduced to levels that no longer threaten continued climate change
  • Waste and pollution have been eliminated such that our unwanted residues do no harm to the health of people or the environment
  • Wildlife and natural habitats are cherished and protected
  • Our society is structured to favour local services and production
  • The community of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland is recognised as a beacon of sustainability and Groundwork as an exemplar within it.

Our Mission in making the vision a reality:

We will be a catalyst for change: informing, inspiring and enabling individuals, communities and organisations in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland to make choices that contribute to a sustainable society.
