Following a consultation period last year, Marton Primary School pupils and local residents will finally be celebrating the grand opening of the village’s very own community garden from 10:30AM on Saturday, May 14th.

The Marton Community Garden, located within the grounds of Marton Primary School, has been made possible thanks to funding from both the Big Lottery Fund and Lincolnshire County Council.

Designed and created by Groundwork Lincolnshire’s landscape team, along with consultation from the school and locals, the project has taken just under two months to complete. Halfway through the project, Groundwork Lincolnshire invited local residents to partake in a planting day, giving the local community an opportunity to be a part of the garden’s creation.

The finished garden features natural seating, a sensory pathway, and a mini orchard with various fruit trees.

Marton Primary School students will also be able to make use of a new canopied outdoor classroom. Richard Stock, Marton Primary School head teacher said the following: “Outdoor learning is a fantastic way to enhance the curriculum and add a real sense of fun and enjoyment to the learning experience. The garden will help achieve this, so we are very fortunate and all very excited”

Groundwork Lincolnshire’s Land Project Supervisor Chris Belshaw added: “This previously unused space is now habitable by wildlife, and will be a lovely environment for the community to enjoy and for the local children to learn in.”

Marton Community Garden will be officially opened by school governor and Chairman of Marton Parish Council, Steve Spence in a special ribbon cutting event at midday (12 noon).

All residents of Marton, along with local dignitaries, have been invited to celebrate the community garden’s opening. The opening day will offer plenty of fun and free activities for all members of the community including willow weaving, face painting, bird box creation and more.
